1. REGULAR TUNING
Have your piano tuned regularly. Pianos lose pitch every year whether played or not due to seasonal fluctuations in humidity and temperature, and they are designed to be kept in tune and under a certain amount of tension. Piano manufacturers and technicians recommend having your piano tuned every 6 months. This is the single best thing you can do for your instrument.
2. LOCATION
Place your piano on an interior wall, away from windows, direct sunlight and direct flow of air currents. Also do not place your piano near home heating sources such as fireplaces or space heaters.
3. ENVIRONMENT
Try to maintain consistent temperature and humidity in the room that your piano is located. 68-73 degrees is usually a good temperature range for most pianos, and a good humidity level is about 42-45%. The BEST way to control the humidity level for your piano is use a Piano Life Saver humidity control system. CLICK HERE to learn more.
4. NOT A SHELF
Do not use your piano as a shelf to put decorations on, and especially, ESPECIALLY do not keep potted plants or flower vases on the piano. It may be a pretty location to showcase flowers and plants, but the risks of the piano being damage from liquids far outweighs the beauty of the flowers or plants.
5. FOOD AND DRINK
Keep food and drinks away from the instrument. It's not a table. Using it to hold your drink is not worth the risk of damaging your piano.
6. MOVING
Use only a professional piano mover to move your piano.
7. PLAY YOUR PIANO REGULARLY
